Peace and Social Justice

Parishioners, through personal dedication to the community of man, should strive to alleviate human suffering and even more importantly, work to eliminate the causes of social problems.

Parishioners are encouraged to become involved in this work so that Catholic efforts toward social justice can become a strong, effective force in our region. To join in, please contact your parish's secretary.

Services and Responsibilities
  1. Participate in joint efforts with the other churches and other groups in the community
  2. Provide assistance to the poor, elderly, shut-ins, lonely, and bereaved
  3. Prepare a list of all social services available in the region and publicize it
  4. Foster social legislation:
Research the issues and disseminate information on proposed legislation. The committee can take a stand on an issue and give reasons for its position, making it clear that the position is the opinion of the committee. When proposed legislation is clearly a question of right and wrong, the committee should alert the community to that fact and advise them on the moral position.
  5. Initiate study groups on social justice, such as the study of social encyclicals of the Church, etc.
  6. Support efforts for public housing for elderly or low-income people
  7. Educate parishioners on local, state, national and world social justice issues
  8. Provide information on tax obligations and exemptions
  9. Communicate regularly with the regional district of the Diocesan Human Relations Services
